Enrollment FAQ

Updated: 1 day ago

Choosing the right educational environment for your child is a truly significant decision, and we want you to feel completely at ease and certain about joining our community! We've gathered all the essential enrollment information here to guide you through the process. This resource was inspired by the questions we've been asked by families like yours.

Enrollment & Admissions

Q: What is the enrollment process and timeline?

A: Our enrollment is a simple, four-step journey designed to be easy for your family:

  1. Tour or Open House: Visit us to see our classrooms in action.

  2. Apply: Submit your application form.

  3. Family Interview: Join us for a 30-minute chat with a Teacher Leader.

  4. Acceptance: Review and accept our enrollment offer.

Open enrollment kicks off in the final week of January and closes March 1. Applications received after March 1 are reviewed on a rolling basis. We can accommodate mid-year transfers if we have current space and capacity in the community. The entire process typically takes about 10 - 14 days.

Q: What happens after we receive an offer?

A: Congratulations! To accept your offer, please respond within 10 days. You will then receive an Enrollment Agreement to review tuition tiers and payment options. Finalizing registration involves paying the non-refundable registration fee and submitting required documentation, such as your child’s birth certificate and immunization records.

Q: What are the age and eligibility requirements for enrollment?

A: Children may start as early as 2.5 years old, provided they are reliably and independently potty-trained. We encourage families to join by age three to complete the full three-year Early Childhood cycle, though we also offer an Elementary program (ages 6–12) that continues our multi-age approach.

Q: Do I need prior knowledge of Montessori?

A: No, prior knowledge is not required. Many of our families are new to Montessori. Our Family Interview process and ongoing parent education resources are specifically designed to help every family understand and support their child's unique journey with us.

Q: Is there a wait-list?

A: Yes. We maintain a waitlist for applications received after all available spots are filled. If a space becomes available, we review the waitlist immediately.

Q: How can I see the school for myself?

A: We would love to have you visit! During the academic year, we hold tours on Mondays, but we are flexible and can accommodate other days to suit your schedule. Please submit an Admission Inquiry Form, and we will find a time that works for you. Summer tours should be booked at least 24 hours in advance.

Tuition & Financial Philosophy

Q: How does the tiered tuition model work?

A: Our tiered tuition model is a sliding scale designed to make high-quality, authentic Montessori education accessible to families across a range of incomes. We believe in building our community on trust, so there is no "right" answer when selecting a tier—only the one that is sustainable for your household. We invite you to review your family budget and select the tuition level that allows you to join our community comfortably.

Q: Is there financial aid or scholarships available?

A: Our tiered tuition model is our financial aid mechanism. By allowing families to self-select a rate that reflects their financial capacity, we ensure accessibility without the administrative burden of traditional "needs-based" aid applications. We are also actively seeking partnerships to help subsidize tuition and expand our inclusive community.

Q: What financial documentation is required?

A: None. We operate on an honor system and do not require families to submit any financial documentation or proof of income. Our model is built on transparency and trust, not income verification.

Q: How should I compare costs with other schools?

A: When comparing costs, we recommend looking at the "Total Cost of Attendance." Many schools advertise a lower base rate but add mandatory charges for technology, materials, and activities throughout the year. At Pinyon, our tiered tuition is all-inclusive. We encourage you to ask any prospective school for their total annual investment to ensure an accurate, "apples-to-apples" comparison for your budget. We provide a handy worksheet just for this purpose.

Q: Will choosing a lower tier affect my child’s admission?

A: No. Admissions decisions and tuition tier selections are entirely separate. Choosing a lower tier has no impact on your child’s enrollment status, as we reserve spots across all income levels to ensure an inclusive community. If your preferred tier is currently at capacity, we can discuss joining our waitlist or explore alternative tier options.

Q: Why is there a 3% fee for ACH payments?

A: This covers processing costs, allowing us to keep base tuition tiers lower for everyone.

Q: Where can I find current tuition and fees?

A: Please visit the Admissions page on our website for the most current tuition schedule. Rates typically include a 3% Cost of Living increase each year.

School Philosophy & Operations

Q: What is the Montessori approach?

A: Montessori is a well-established method based on the idea that children are naturally curious. In our "prepared environment," children have the freedom to choose their activities, learn through hands-on experiences, and work together in a multi-age setting. This approach helps children build essential life skills—such as planning, organization, and conflict resolution—while developing a lifelong passion for discovery..

Q: What are the student-to-teacher ratios?

A:  Early Childhood (ages 3–6): 1:10. Elementary (ages 6–12): 1:15

Q: How does the school handle changes in family circumstances?

A: We understand that life can be unpredictable. While we ask families to commit to the full academic year to maintain community stability, we approach significant life changes (such as moves or job changes) with empathy. Please contact us as early as possible so we can explore solutions such as payment plans or transition support. If you need to withdraw, please notify us in writing; tuition obligations are prorated based on your departure date.
